I'd rather live in Jacksonville, Fl, where there is no state income tax and lower cost of living, making say 8 mil a yr, than in SF making 6 mil a yr and paying very high taxes and have a higher cost of living. That difference adds up.
You only have a limited # of yrs where you can get paid big bucks, so location shouldn't matter as long as the money is there. Endorsements will always find you if you're good/marketable. NFL and NBA do a great job of showing love to their small market teams. If they didn't, then all the big market teams would have all the leverage and low ball their players.

but megatron and larry fitzgerald doesn't get near the amount of national advertisements or visibility of victor Cruz and wouldnt you say they are better . And a lot of that fame is based on being on in NYC , look at Jeremy Lin 
not a peep about him . Your also not taking into account that eventually he's going to be asked to restructure so why play for 2 mil this year then get a deal next year ? That's 5+ mill he's losing by being shortsighted
