Influenced? People stole and re-used records TONS MORE back in the day.:manny: Look at Motown's catalog (Hundreds of versions of the same song); Beatles and Elvis; Lyrics and Melodies were taken; I don't see their artistry questioned, just the rap producers. :manny:

"Sampling" IS Music; Been going on since the beginning.

I can only question incidences I know about.

So I can't question Mo-Town's catalog or the Beatles because I haven't seen a youtube video exposing them.

I wasn't questioning Tim until I saw a video pointing out that his biggest hits were sample-driven. If someone posted a similar video about Paul McCartney I'd question his artistry as well.

Sampling is an art form all on its own...

To me sampling is similar to customizing your car...If I buy a BMW and I look at, and think to myself, "this car isn't funky"...

I can invest my time and money, and transform that BMW into something that I think is funky...

I am not claiming that I am the engineer who came up with the technology that made the BMW possible...

All I am is a designer who conceptualized a whole new look for that stock BMW, and made it more appealing to a whole different demographic of people...

I agree with your analogy on car customization. I used that analogy myself several times in the thread.

Adapting a script, and even writing a script from scratch, is based on a notion of SAMPLING. Take pieces of little things and creating something new and distinct. Of course, there are lazy beatmakers who add nothing but a kick and a snare, but youre discrediting ALL of the people who go beyond that and make something personal.

Filmmakers and authors are thief too

music is music, sampled or original. obviously it takes more talent to create an entirely new piece of music, but sampling has its own difficulties too. i respect a producer who does either, its all about how well its done. like the nas said "no ideas original, its never what you do, but how its done"

its cool to take a sample and make a good beat with it. thats the whole concept of art, taking something and making it into something new and interesting. i agree with the producers saying sampling is the highest form of flattery. when it comes down to it, your taking someone elses work and making it into music for a whole new group of people to enjoy. its also keeping that persons legacy alive. obviously not for the casual fan, but someone like me, who learned about lord finesse thru mac miller using the kool aid and frozen pizza beat (before the legal shyt).

and everybody samples in some way or another. even the people who are being sampled (mostly artists in the 50s-90s) used music they heard in their music. whether it be a piano riff, portion of a guitar solo, drum pattern, whatever. nobody is an "original" in the truest sense of the word. any innovation in science and art is based on making something better.

but yeah lets blame is all on hip hop producers :stopitslime:
