Belly isn't some masterpiece in cinematography or acting, but it is a classic, a hood classic. It was a game changer. There's good movies that came after that were influenced by the template. There's also the fact that a Hip Hop director directed it and it opened the door for others to do the same.

And this movie isn't receiving some retroactive push. This was the case pre-release. I remember The Box kept airing this special about the movie that featured Hype William's and DMX.

They is. East Coast nikkas be biased as shyt though. They try to act like UGK or Three Six got no classics but somehow think nikkas was riding around Compton or Memphis bumpin some Killah Priest thinking only they shyt can be a national classic and everybody else shyt is regional. They try to spill that shyt over into movies too.
