Even before KD came, the Warriors literally drafted a 73-9 team. That's pretty unprecedented.
They were not as good as their record. They just benefited from a weak era in NBA history. That was literally the time when half the league was tanking.
Also in the playoffs they were down 3-1 to OKC and should have lost in the WCF. And in the Finals they were defeated by a not so talented Cavs team after being up 3-1.
If KD never joins them, they don't win another ring. KD saved them.

At the time people weren't checking for light skinned jump shooting players like that. Can't really blame GMs for not picking him in the top 3 at most people thought he was gonna be a role player.
