Video Music Box 30th Anniversary Apprecition Thread

Before Yo MTV Raps, Rap City, even before internet media sensations like Rap Radar, Nah Right, 2dopeboyz, Worldstar or On Smash, it was Video Music Box. A little public access show that impacted the Hip Hop culture in a BIG way. Created and hosted by Ralph McDaniels, VMB was the first music show to expose the world to Hip Hop on a visual level back when MTV, and even BET, fronted on the culture. From videos, to backstage interviews, showcasing different parties/clubs within the NY/NJ area, VMB laid the foundation for the social networking, hip hop blog media we are in today. Since this year marks 30 years since its inception, let's take a look back of some of the classic moments VMB has brought us.

Much props to Newark for acknowledging the best Hip Hop show ever. This was the show that put me on to Hip Hop....Ralph McDaniels is responsible for a lot of classic videos like Onxy's "Throw Ya Guns" and Wu Tangs "Protect Ya Neck".....I'll never forget once seeing a kid I beat up giving a shout out at a party. It was nothing to see familiar faces on that show giving shout outs. When The Box came to NY in 91 they kinda took away VMB's shine.......But the fact that the show is still around and it caters to the local markets as well as the mainstream, is enough for me to acnoklegde that the show is one of the preservations of the Hip Hop culture. If I'm not mistaken they are the longest running Hip Hop show.......
