I didnt know that is where Wendy Williams got her start.
She got her first major start doing evenings on 98.7 Kiss FM. On that particular clip, Ralph McDaniels was filming from the Kiss FM studios. VMB use to film a lot of radio spots. I remember when Funk Flex first got on Hot 97, they filmed him at the station spinning house records. But its little intimate things like that, that seperated VMB from the rest.

Ralph use to play Boot Camp Click shyt all the time. Seeing Smiff n Wesson's Won on Won and Fab 5's blah for the first time was :ahh:

I remember when I wanted to watch Dennis the Menace animated show, my brother shut that shyt down with the quickness and put on Video Music Box.

First rap video I saw on Video Music Box.

If you aint have cable in NY then Ralph Mcdaniels was the only thing holding you down with hip hop videos outside of flavor videos.

Its crazy to think VMB has footage they've probably never used from thousands of hip hop stars and shows for the last 30 years just chilling in a closet somewhere.

I remember Ralph playing a video once where one cat was dressed like big,one cat was dressed like pac, and one cat was dressed like jay. I was straight up :dead:

It was all good until Dré smacked Dee on Pump It Up.

Errbody was glued to the TV back in the 80's when Video Music Box came on.

Hell, I didn't know that show was still on after '89.

Also, renowed video directors Lionel C. Martin (the Vid kid) and Hype Williams all came up under Ralph McDaniels wing. Ralph and VMB were responsible for them getting their start in video directing.

We used to call it "Channel 31" back in the day as kids. LOL!!

Everyday after school, cats were runnin' home to catch exclusives. Ralph was playin' joints that MTV wouldn't play. He also had alternate version of videos that cats would give him just to promote, until they got their budget. They would do an "old school" show every week and have videos to tracks from way back that you wouldn't even know HAD videos!

Ralph was always at the best parties and would show you footage of some of the most legendary performances of all-time. Every rapper paid their dues at some point, and it seems like Ralph was always there to capture it. He'd take calls and requests, and shoot live from his video room and show all kinds of shelves of classic videos. It was just as Hip Hop as Hip Hop gets. He's a true icon and this was a HUGE part of growing up in NY for us little Hip Hop heads back in the day. This show was a serious part of your life back then, if you were a kid just gettin' into Hip Hop.

Props on the thread, Newark.
