Daughter’s heartbreaking final call home revealed before being found dead with broken neck on Mexican birthday vacation​

DETAILS about the last call of a 25-year-old woman who died during her Mexican vacation have come to light.

Following her arrival at Cabo, Mexico, Shanquella Robinson made a call to her mother, Salamondra Robinson, and after that, her family never saw her again, according to WNCT.

During the call, Robinson told Salamondra that their party "had a chef. They were getting ready to eat. They were eating tacos or a salad or something, and I said, 'OK. I love you. Have a good night, and I will talk to you tomorrow.'"

Salamondra said that after this phone call, "I never talked to my child again. She never made it back home," the CBS affilaite reported.

Robinson died in the first 24 hours she was away.

Her family began to receive panicked calls from her friends, each one speculating something different about her health and the cause of her unstable condition.

"They said she wasn’t feeling well. She had alcohol poisoning. They couldn’t get a pulse.

“Each one of the people that was there with her was telling different stories.”

Phoning the FBI and Mexican police revealed her autopsy performed locally that allegedly showed signs of foul play.

Salamondra said: "When the autopsy came back, they said it didn’t have anything to do with the alcohol...[They] said that she had a broken neck and her spine in the back was cracked. She had been beaten."

Hoever, the U.S. State Department officials in Mexico reportedly denied that Robinson's death was a murder, saying the police investigation did not show signs of foul play.

While an official with the State Department is helping the family acquire Mexican authority reports, they are being pointed in the direction of hiring a private investigator who can properly handle the case.

"I know that’s not going to bring my child back, but I want something done about it," Salamondra said according to WNCT.

"She had a heart of gold. She loved everybody, and pretty much everybody loved her."

An American woman's death in Mexico is being investigated as a femicide, a form of gender-based violence, according to the Baja California Sur Attorney General’s Office.
The family of Shanquella Robinson, 25, of Charlotte, North Carolina, is desperate for answers after shedied while vacationing with friends in Mexico last month.

Robinson went to San Jose del Cabo, a resort city on the southern tip of Mexico's Baja California peninsula, with six friends on Oct. 28.
They stayed at a rental villa in Fundadores, an exclusive gated community with vacation homes and a private beach club, Robinson's parents told Charlotte ABC affiliate WSOC-TV in a recent interview.


The next day, Robinson's parents got a frantic telephone call from their daughter's friends saying she had died.

"They said she wasn't feeling well, that it was alcohol poisoning," Robinson's mother, Sallamondra Robinson, told WSOC-TV.

However, the Mexican Secretariat of Health's autopsy report and death certificate for Robinson, obtained by ABC News, lists her cause of death as "severe spinal cord injury and atlas luxation," with no mention of alcohol. The document also states that the approximate time between injury and death was 15 minutes, while a box asking whether the death was "accidental or violent" was ticked "yes."



According to the document, which was dated Nov. 4, Robinson was found unconscious in the living room of a residence on Padre Kino Avenue, near Fundadores Beach Club, in San Jose del Cabo on the afternoon of Oct. 29.

The Fundadores Beach Club did not immediately respond to ABC News' request for comment on Thursday.
Robinson's parents described their late daughter as a hardworking business owner who had a "great heart."
"It's like a nightmare. I can't even sleep," Robinson's father, Bernard Robinson, told WSOC-TV. "I just want some truth because this doesn't add up right."


In recent days, a video -- not verified by ABC News -- has surfaced online purportedly showing a woman attacking Robinson. Speaking to WSOC-TV, Robinson's mother identified the people in the footage as the friends who accompanied her daughter to Mexico and said she believes it was taken during the trip. In the video, someone can be heard asking if Robinson "could at least fight back." It's unclear when and where the video was taken.

"It was never a fight. She didn't fight. They attacked her," Sallamondra Robinson told WSOC-TV. "She did not deserve to be treated like that."


The U.S. Embassy in Mexico City told ABC News on Wednesday that its staff "are aware of Shanquella Robinson's death and are providing consular services to her family."


A spokesperson for the Federal Bureau of Investigation's field office in Charlotte, North Carolina, told ABC News on Thursday that the agency has been in contact with Robinson's family.

As the mystery deepens and questions remain, the State Attorney General's Office of Baja California Sur released a statement Wednesday saying it is continuing to investigate Robinson's death.

The office said it received a call on Oct. 29 at approximately 6:15 p.m. local time from a "public security member" who reported the death of a foreign woman in a room of a house in the Fundadores Beach Club area in San Jose del Cabo. Investigators were sent to the scene and are still collecting "more evidence to achieve the accurate clarification of the events, without ruling out any hypothesis," according to the office.

If they really planned on killing her, why would they record it. Murders usually get recorded without the perpertrator(s) knowing it. At the moment, I can't think of one murder that was purposely recorded, not saying that hasn't happened, but it's extremely rare. Most of the time, if a group of people want to murder one person, not only will they not recorded it, but they'll do something like take them on some boat ride, and push them overboard, like they probably did to Robert Dion Muhammad, the former NOI member, while he was on that fishing trip with those White boys. Or they'll say they fell off a balcony, like they said what happened to Tamla Horsford, the only Black women at that sleepover in Cumming, Georgia.

Although I don't think the original plan was to kill her, I do think one or two of them went over board at some point. If they really planned this, then her mother wouldn't have heard all those different stories. Whatever story they planned, it sounds like it wasn't too well planned, and made after she was dead.

This strikes as a fight gone too far. Someones were mad at her and decided to fight her (beat her, since she didn’t fight back hoping they’d just stop) and ended up accidentally killing her. Others in the house allowed the fight to happen and everybody panicked when she got critically/fatally injured. Even those not beating her became complicit in a cover up as they collectively tried to dodge the consequences of their actions. People don’t appreciate how hard it is to cover up a crime like this after the fact when you never expected to need to cover any tracks. Glad the FBI is involved and if my theory is true, someone (s) will start snitching very soon.
