Well I do agree with the point that men don’t wait until they are “successful” to date outside their race.

Most black men I know who date non black women liked non black girls very early like middle school. Some “grow out” of it but most don’t and that’s who they pursue all the way up.

And I think black men who prefer black women choose black women on their way up too.

Some do, some don't. You can look at some of these dude's former girlfriends/first baby mama's and ex-wives etc from before the come up vs who they got with after and see the trajectory. Now granted sometimes it's a simple issue of proximity and success based access but I think in 2023 it's time to stop pretending that for some, non-black women are seen as the ultimate prize and status symbol, and "getting one" means you've finally made it.
