McVay was eating up the Flores blitz beautifully in the beginning by having two or three receivers run little 5-yard sit down routes, likely as an option once the defense tips its hand. I would have liked to see the Vikings attack with short and intermediate routes. But even if they did, Sam was refusing to hit screens all game. Had JJ taking one step and turning around with the corner 15 yards off him in a zone and Sam still wouldn't throw the rock. It was maddening to watch.
The 2 point conversion had JJ running BEHIND the line of scrimmage

KOC for a 1st and 3rd pick.

In football all, you typically have a week to gameplan for the upcoming opponent, which means most teams have a scripted drive they plan on calling on offense. However, according to Alec Lewis with The Athletic, Vikings coach Kevin O’Connell is not one of those coaches. Lewis says O’Connell calls plays on the fly and makes adjustments when needed

Horrible play call.

I'm not there with it yet because these things are fixable. The easiest thing to do is to elevate a capable OC to carry more of the playcalling so KO can focus on game day and overall coaching. Which likely also fixes the clock management issues. Way too many horrible coaches out there to not sit down and fix your problems first. First-time head coaches gotta grow and develop just like players do.

I mean, the team was 14-3. He just needed a couple wins. Make no mistake, he lost a lot or money yesterday.

The way I look at is his floor entering the playoffs was a Baker Mayfield type deal and depending on how far he got he would’ve gotten more money. So he missed out on the chance to make more, he didn’t lose the Baker type deal IMO.

He’s going to get a baker deal but I think that’s a big loss given the current market.

Cumulatively, the Rams have a recent past, present and future better than all but one franchise :russ:

Having a good head coach, elite-ish QB and good front office does that. They’ve made some great roster moves AND lost Donald. That would cripple most teams.

If Im a team other than the vikings, no way I give Darnold 3/100M after a performance he turned in the the last two weeks if I dont have have a offensive genius, weapons on offense, and a top defense. He folds under pressure. This isnt the first time either, there were times in the regular season where the defense kept the Vikings in games when darnold was fukking up offensively.

If im the vikings, I dont give him that either. I'd offer 2/15M as a backup. Take it or leave it, they got DJ in the wings to be a backup :yeshrug:

I love KO but agree with all of the above. If he's going to take that next step he has some work to do. His faults start to show in these big games and they're fixable, but glaring. It was inexcusable for them to look how they did in Detroit and then come back the next week not looking remarkably better. Sam Darnold got shook and forgot how to play football, but KO made a lot of mistakes too and didn't have them boys prepared. Hopefully when the dust settles in the offseason he goes fishing with Sean McVay or something and soaks up some good game on what went wrong.

We should for real get offseason thread going this time. Also, I don't know what Vikings content y'all are on but I love Purple Daily on YouTube. The hosts are a former Star Tribune Vikings beat writer and Minneapolis ESPN radio anchor, and they talk Vikings 365 days. Their vent line was the first place I turned after the game went off while I was drinking :wow:
I just follow Kevin Seifert, Luke Braun and Arif Hasan on twitter.

Luke is hilarious, he been yelling from the mountaintops about KOC's predictable approach to playcalling from day 1

:smh:
