On Windhorst podcast they were saying that the trade had to get done before the season since there were enough roster positions to facilitate the trade. You can have up to 20 during training camp. We wouldn’t have been able to do this at the deadline. They also pointed out the creativity of using sign and trades for end of bench guys. We’ve been signing guys just to put them in a trade for contract purposes.
