They used the injury angle to work Bryan into going away under the guise of "doing right by his health", and he never would've gone for it except that Brie has been pushing him to hang it up and be Vegan Daddy also, so he finally gave in and agreed. Bryan realizes all of this also, so he plays along for the sake of his wife and family and tells himself that it was time, but he'll always have that part deep down that it doesnt sit right with.
