I'll never forget.. going into my freshman year I high school.. my school went up to University of North Florida for team camp. We had our own fab 5 working. We'd been playing together for years in the AAU circuit. Then we all made varsity our freshman years, and coach decided to let us take our bumps, in order to make us better in the long run. Anyway.. fast forward to this team camp.

Vince and I both played the 3, so I was sticking him all game. Well, not really sticking him. We were the same height, but he was so much more filled out than I was. He was a senior, and I was a freshman. Long story short, he play till the half, and he had 31 at the half. I had 11. :francis:

He doesn't even play the whole second-half, but we managed to take it into overtime. In overtime, five minute quarters, he drops 17. Including the game-winning receiving end of an alley oop. Literally, on my head.

He's been a HOF from that day on. :yeshrug:

Dunks will always be his claim to fame but he's definitely getting in the HOF. One of the more odd careers ever. He was a beast in early 2000s. Pretty good but nowhere near what he was expected to be in NJ. It looked like it was over in ORL. I never would have guessed he would still not only be playing, but playing this well at this age.

Yea, when he came to the 407 I thought his career was at the tail end but he reinvented himself and has lasted longer than I thought he would.

If T-Mac made it in 1st ballot, Vince has to as well
T-Mac was much better than VC though :francis:

It's not to say VC won't make it because he will, 8x All-Star, G.O.A.T. '00 Dunk Contest, 25,000 career points. But he's a bit overrated, injuries held him back a bit, and he underachieved, he had his peak season at 24 and only made 2x All-NBA team, he's a top 15 SG , no case for top 5 other than entertainment value, never led a team anywhere. Also, he quit on Toronto, who knows with he and a young Bosh could have accomplished. I still feel like he should finish his career in Toronto. It's a shame that T-Mac and VC didn't stay together longer.

Nah, not much better. He had a better prime than Vince though, but he also flamed out way quicker. VC has the better career so :ld:

I have been debating this point for years. Vince will get in but T-Mac was just better. Also, people make too much about 1st ballots....T-Mac really got in 1st ballot because of perfect timing. Vince is getting in no doubt now but he isnt a 1st ballot lock.

in terms of their primes, T-Mac was much better. 7 All NBA selections to 2. T-Mac was 1st team twice. That's the huge difference. T-Mac didnt have a short prime its just that it ended prematurely. had he stayed healthy, he had at least 3 more years left as a top 15 player.

Sorry to bump the thread but I was watching a few VC clips this morning. If you told me at the 2000 dunk contest that Vince would go on to make over two thousand 3-pointers I would've looked at you like
:martin:

42 years old. :wow:

If T-Mac had stayed healthy and been on the right teams I think he could've been one of the all time greats. His comeback against the Spurs where he scored 13 points in 30 some seconds is one of the craziest things I've ever seen.

This is one of my favorite random and meaningless clips on youtube but it's so fun.

Definitely a hall of famer and salute to him not chasing rings.

He's stated he would rather play for a team and contribute rather than ride the pine and get a ring because he still loves the game

He’s a surefire HOFer. It’s interesting how the knock on him earlier was him supposedly not being passionate about the game and questionable work ethic.

Now it’s something that he’s often praised about because he obviously works very hard if he’s still in the league at this age.

Greatest dunker ever.
