Profiency in any fighting discipline is a good base for MMA, not just wrestling. If you are a Sambo base, BJJ, wrestling, boxing, kickboxing, its all good to start and work off from.
Goldberg had no base to build from though, which is why I would say Steiner would destroy him.

Crazy. It still boggles my mind smarks (like me, just to clarify) still want to see Goldberg wrestle. The Steiners were legit badasses and I'm sure had some muthafukkin' crazy in them too. Even with the roids, I'm picking Scott to embarass the shyt out of him.
I never said any other discipline was "bad" to build off of.
I just believe wrestling is the best place to start off on especially everyone is starting off at zero.
if you know how to grapple you can put the fight wherever you want it. most street fights end up on the ground anyway the vast majority of people have zero idea what to do when they get swept and mounted except getting choked out or punched into unconsciousness.

I understand what you are saying, i just disagree.
Grappling is fine, but to grapple you have to close space, Rousey is one of the best in the world in judo, a very solid grappling system, against a kick boxer like Holm she had trouble closing distance to actually grapple and got picked apart and put to sleep.
Now I'm not saying thats an automatic but just an example of how no style is the best, being well rounded is and having a solid profiency in one skill to build off is better than having none.

To strike in MMA you have to open up your stance in most instances which spells danger with grapplers.
Ronda has bad knees and thus can't properly grapple, she's throw/ submission based, but I do see what you're saying because she was a deer in the headlights when she couldn't get ahold of Holly.
It's similar to how the wide stance of a traditional boxer makes them food for most accomplished wrestlers in an MMA fight.
