We all know VY's struggles in the passing game...

but why wasnt he a better runner in the NFL?

His last few years...I was surprised by how much he got tracked down.

I was worried about his passing in the NFL. But I thought he'd be capable of running for 600 to 700 yards in the NFL.

Two things ended his career.

1. You dont disrespect a HC like Jeff Fisher. I dont give a damn if he was in the wrong. You dont curse out your HC in front of your team and then send a text to apologize.
2. You go to Andy Reid and the Eagles....backing up an always injured Mike Vick. So you're going to get playing time and you're in a system that allows for QBs to productive......and yet VY threw 9 ints in 3 starts :snoop:. All VY had to do is put in work....get retained in Philly for another year...and who knows. Maybe Chip Kelly is coaching VY in that offense now instead of Foles. He blew it all in that year.

BULLCHIT!!!!!

culpepper's best year was without randy moss & cris carter. im not even sure if he had jake reed.
Wrong. Culpepper's best year was 04 and Moss was on the team. Played 13 games due to a hamstring injury and still led the team in tds.

no its not. at least its not his most efficient.

regardless of what year you want to run with, my point stands.

best QB rating, highest amt of yards thrown, highest td/int ratio. it's really not a debate 2004 was Daunte's best year period all with Moss on the field.

I think the NFL is rife with performance enhancers so that negates everyone's relative running advantage. But even if Vince Young could run 600 to 700 yards, that's not enough to overcome his passing deficiencies. He wasn't an efficient passer with and without pressure. The same rule applies to Newton. If he can't better his passing game, he'll be out of the league eventually.

Everyone will be out of the league eventually. :heh:

A young 6'5" 245lb QB that will give you 3,500yds/25TDs passing and 600-700 yds/7TDs rushing isn't leaving the league anytime soon.

Young, who retired from the NFL in June after six seasons, will serve as a development officer for program alumni relations, raising money for programs that help first-generation and low-income college students.

"The position with DDCE is a great way to stay connected to the university and help make a difference in the lives of underserved kids across the state," Young said in a statement.

According to the Austin American-Statesman, Young's position will pay him at least $100,000 a year. He begins work on Sept. 1.

"Vince's passion for the educational success of young people and his experiences as a first-generation college graduate make him a perfect fit for this role," Gregory J. Vincent, UT's vice president for diversity and community engagement, said in a statement. "We are excited about the enthusiasm and skill set he is bringing to our team and look forward to working with Vince."

Former Texas coach and current ESPN analyst Mack Brown posted his excitement on Twitter.

I'm excited VY will be back @ work @ Texas!

Young finished his bachelor's degree at UT in applied learning and development last year while waiting for another chance to play in the NFL. Since his last pro start, with the Philadelphia Eagles in 2011, Young had struggled to catch on with another team. He was cut by the Green Bay Packers at the end of preseason last year and briefly signed on with the Cleveland Browns this spring after a minicamp tryout.

Young led Texas to a BCS national championship in 2005. He was 31-19 as a starter and threw for 8,964 yards and 46 touchdowns in his six years as a pro.

"Vince Young brought a national championship to Texas, returned to the Forty Acres to earn his degree and will now help other students reach their goals and change the world," UT president Bill Powers said in a statement.

Good to see he finished up and will make a little bread after filling for bankruptcy

I remember making a thread about which of the young QBs would be most successful

Eli, Rivers, Rapeitsburger, David Carr, Leinart, Young

And a couple others like Rex Grossman, Carson Palmer, Joey Harrington, Patrick Ramsey, Alex Smith, Jason Campbell

All these guys were drafted in the first round within 3-4yrs of each other

Over a quarter of the league changed QBs

We have our answer now
