I swear to God I proposed the theory behind chat GPT half a decade before it was released to the public to my supervisor. This dude had at least two decades more experience than me in computer science, and I genuinely respected his opinion.
I thought my idea was revolutionary that a computer program could have AI responses based on publicly available data from the internet and for movies/media. I floated the idea to to my supervisor that the AI just needs to sound plausible based on context from previously defined movie scenes or music.
I swear to God, my supervisor started laughing and told me that's this is stupidest thing he's ever heard, and it would never work.

It's still burns my soul that if I had I been born with a trust fund, I could have been a billionaire off developing this idea. Inaa parallel world, I could have been one of the tech oligarchs that @O.Red is complaining about
