RUTHERFORD COUNTY, N.C. (FOX Carolina) - The Rutherford County Sheriff’s Office said a deputy was airlifted to the hospital after he was shot while searching for an armed and dangerous suspect wanted from Virginia.

Deputies said they encountered the suspect, Tiye Adam Washington II early on Thursday in the area of Providence Road near Old Henrietta Road.

Washington was wanted for a shooting that happened in Henrico County, Virginia on Tuesday night. It left three people hospitalized with life-threatening injuries. Washington was charged with three counts of malicious wounding and three counts of use of a firearm in the commission of a felony.
