I recently talked to a white, not tough at all couple who just came from Brazil. They said Rio was beautiful and they loved it so much they wanna go back.

As long as you nikkas don't go into the favelas looking for that Bundalele to treat you to be the king you fooled yourself into believing you are you should be skraight.

3rd world countries can be OK, me n wifey survived Peru :yeshrug:

Now Honduras/El Salvador :merchant: :whoa: All 3rd world countries are not created equal.

Who here has actually been to Rio and is not just going off second hand accounts? The tourist areas are pretty safe. Don't stand out like an obvious target and you will be fine. I was.
I was in Rio about 4 years ago. Amazing place. It was sketchy back then though, and things were relatively calm. Hate to see how the recent political turmoils have destabilized the country. With the ongoing break down of law and order, i fear much violence.

Remember, Brazil is like the US. Huge disparity between rich and poor, widespread racial disenfranchisement, class-ism, etc. Only difference is they really never had a civil rights movement. So inequality is growing exponentially.

I just got back from there 2 weeks ago. No problems, all love was my experience. We stayed in Copa right on the beach but hit a few other towns/cities in Rio
