OP, you should definitely hit up U Street, Adams Morgan, H Street NE, Columbia Heights, Chinatown/Gallery Place, City Center DC, Georgetown, Shaw/Little Ethiopia, Georgia Ave, The Wharf, Union Station, Barracks Row/8th Street SE in Capitol Hill, Eastern Market, 14th Street NW, and Anacostia.

U St NW (between 14th and 9th) on Friday and Saturday night is a must. That's where it's most poppin on the weekend.
Adams Morgan is poppin too, but not as many Black people.
Same thing with the clubs south of Dupont Circle.
Georgetown and The Wharf are upscale spots.
Gallery Place has a couple cool little spots.
At least start with that so you not wasting your time wandering around. Don't know how much time you got.

Take the extra 30-40 mins and head out to Southern Maryland and Baltimore. DC is boring imo unless you like museums. Hit up Maryland Live , National Harbor, then go to Inner Harbor -Baltimore. DC is nothing but wall to wall white people downtown unless you're near Howard U. Restaurants are not that good in DC either.
U st has everything, Marvin and Brooklyn the black chill spots, Amsterdam the hood ratchet spot, Cloak and Dagger and Brixton the mixed spots, Lounge of Three and Winebar the old head spots, Hawthorne the white spot.
