Benzino wasn’t gonna win that war, especially with the machine that Em had backing him. That’s why every “battle” he was involved with made him look like the winner. He fell back with that Like Toy Soldiers joint, and after Proof passed he didn’t want to get involved with beef.

Benzino was in a position to win that war and would've had everyone behind him. He used The Source and on the surface, it looked like he was clout chasing. He had support.

This was bigger than just battling on wax. To even present it that way trivializes the larger issue. That's why I said Benzino went to war with the wrong weapons. Why would you engage in a lyrical battle when Hip Hop at large viewed Benzino as inferior to Eminem as an MC? Furthermore, when a white rapper is out here stereotyping us, you don't take him to task lyrically. There should've been a roundtable and the only outlet that did something like that was XXL. Some of the MC's sided with Eminem because they looked at it from the perspective of Benzino battling Eminem and not the larger social issue. It needed a proper moderator to start the dialog.

Back in those Foolish Pride days he was recording with other white boys. He wasn't rapping around and with Black dudes until he got a bit older.

That's what I thought. Think there was an interview with 1 of the people he made the tapes with that confirmed this.

I definitely heard a tape where he said "I don't fukk with that ****** shyt". And Benzino interviewed a few of the white boys he was making raps with back in the days and they said he had more racist raps other than Foolish Pride.

yeah its facts.

its the reason that he never said ngga and alluded to fans wanting to hurt him for saying it on the song criminal

pr stunts tho cuz from royce to outsidaz to dre he been sayin ngga at shows for years

this is facts

talkin bout those guys they are eminems childhood friends who wer ina group wit him, soul intent

they explained that they had full public enemy gear on at the mall (prob africa chain etc) and eminem got beat up so suckerin rhymes dealt with it.

suckerin rhymes was there weekly freestyle

Exactly. Eminem grew up getting his azz whooped by black dudes cuz he was white. Of course he was racist at one point. Nothing in his recent history would suggest he's still racist. Unlike Kid Rock, Marshall stays and continues to help the culture. And he doesn't have to. I respect him for being one of the illest lyricists in his prime.

this. likely still is to a degree :manny:

that type of shyt doesn't leave you
i'm a black male and Em is top 5 IMO but cacs gon cac :francis:

all cacs are racist to an extent and white supremacy is real :usure:

he been paying his reparations over the years by putting nikkas on

tho he still needs to do right by D12 :beli::what:

People might say he brought the world 50 Cent, he’s also put on guys like Royce & Obie even D12 but nobody listens to them guys anymore. He did sign Westside Gunn & Conway, even got a new song with him and kind of gave him a big look for that. But I get where you’re coming from. Em’s music isn’t something to be proud of listening to. Dr. Dre saw money signing Eminem.

This might be semantics but 50 Cent was scorching be4 Em signed him. At dat point it didnt really matter who 50 signed to. But i guess
Interscope's machine was powerful back then so i can somewhat give him dat.

Wasnt Royce & him a duo at first & then Em just happened got a deal 1st & dragged him along dat way? But sure, i can give him dat.

Obie was cool but didn't really make too much noize or any significant impact on the game, outside of that 1 album when Em was 1 of the biggest rappers out. But yeah he was cool.
D12? Thats not something to write home about homie :mjlol:

But Em signing a bunch of acts is no different than what most artists have done in the game. Before & after him.

Where Benzino is at fault is Eminem was given an Unsigned Hype column, was covered a lot before SSLP even dropped. Then he used the magazine to diss Eminem. He invited Eminem into the culture and helped legitimize Eminem's position within the culture by covering him and not only giving him the Unsigned Hype column, but Eminem was covered in several sections of the magazine before he dropped his Interscope album. Then he even had magazine covers. Now if Benzino knew about the tapes back then and only released them during the beef, he is in the wrong.

And a lot of people still don't know what started the beef in the first place. Eminem made "Without Me" which pretty much celebrated his privilege in a Black culture and then said it would be empty without him. He may have been parodying white privilege or joking around, but you don't joke or parody something like that. Benzino was RIGHT in calling it out and he was a lone wolf in that battle. The integrity of that battle was lost when he used the magazine to go at Em. Benzino was fighting a winning battle with all the wrong weapons. This was bigger than battle rapping and it should have gotten more attention than it did.

@ bolded

Unfortunate reality of the world. Reality is how many ppl, regardless of background/race, would stand up against, say, their boss a work? Hip-hop is is also a business. With dat comes positions & careers dat ppl are afraid of losing. So they'll talk about their problems at home or quietly & tuck their tail at work.

Ppl love to talk but rarely walk the walk. I've witness dis myself. Even if the job is a simple
9-5 where they hire any1. So imagine the average college graduate with loans & bills to pay? All that integrity shyt flies out the window quickly, especielly if u tryna battle a corporation/machine dat some1 like Em has behind him.

Remember when all the rappers spoke up about Em's racist tapes in the Source? Look at them now. Same ones defending similar actions now (i.e. Crooked I).

Just giving y'all some context to how "woke" or "real" ppl really are in the world..

Above the fray.
I understand perfectly well how it works. Show me where anyone was extorted or blackmailed into concealing additional tapes.
uh, ok

r. kelly's current legal problems stem from a series old old vhs tapes being anonymously given to law enforcement

nike recently called the feds on a lawyer who they said threatened to leak damaging information about possible ncaa violations.......one leak at a time

lawyer involved in both cases was trying to settle financial arrangement with Kelly and Nikebefore the leaks........Michael Avenatti

I don't know but why he on their list? Don't make sense unless they really believe he should be there, it ain't 2000 no more where they hopin he could do somethin for them, he's like 50 years old and barely makes music and barely features. Why they all have him on the list? and high up?

That's the conversation that should be had. Do they really believe he's one of the goats? ppl actin like this is a coli thing or a message board thing. It's the ones with the voices who still stan him

I ask because I honestly never encountered Black folks that listen to Eminem. I find it hard to believe that a KRS-One or Rakim can spit a full Eminem verse. I'm sorry...don't believe it. Saying Eminem is a GOAT became the trendy thing to do in Hip Hop. Black folks...like always...are super welcoming to white folks that do what we do with some type of competency to the point where we overrate that white person. Em is no better a rapper than a million dudes that came before and after him. I feel disgusted when dudes seem like they go out their way to name Eminem as some superior rapper but never mention guys CLEARLY much better like Monch, Black Thought, Canibus, etc. Shout out to those rappers that kept it real and said that he NEVER was considered a top rapper in the Black community (Jamar, Gucci, Ghostface...). Eminem is the most overrated rapper of all time and it ain't even close.

This story didn't die and people weren't pressured. Those tapes were leaked and if I'm not mistaken copies were pressed and sold with the magazine:

The Source Digs Up Tape Of Eminem Using Racial Slurs

This was a hot topic that made its rounds. It eventually did die down like all hot topics do, but this was an issue. After the tapes, there was never any follow up.
You're arguing just to argue...........others in the industry were pressured to NOT speak out against Em publicly so that the story would die down. Because other Black industry figures didn't publicly condemn em, or even publicly forgave him............and because they dug up a Made Men song with a white rapper using the same slur on a track with Benzino ...media eventually spun in like Benzino and Source had personal vendetta against em..............and the story died down
when i say 14 minutes later, that's figuratively.......Black rap fans got upset, then forgot when he hopped on the remix of whatever hot song came out a few months later
