Its not Lauryn, it's Miss Hill.

Beyonce just wails and wails..she's a poor vocalist so she over does it. just forceful and staged. too mechanical..

Beyonce is actually a great vocalist and had great technique. Her voice is very bland though. She lacks soul and the ability to emote. Lauryn has power and soul in her voice so it's L>>Bey.

She did a terrible cover to L's ex factor and that is bc she was missing the soul and tried to use her yelling/technique in the place of it which just doesn't work.

She should stick to those little pop songs bc when she sings songs that have a soulful feel or need emotion, her weakness shows. It's crazy bc she used to be able to emote a little bit back in her dc and dil days, but she lost it somewhere around her 2nd album. Maybe bc of the extra voice lessons she took for her role in that movie or something, learingin to sing like etta idk. But ever since then, her voice has been bland. Great technique and sounds ok, but nothing that moves you, no soul just like her public persona.

Another drawback for Bey is she has an inferior catalog..

Bey's under pressure to be this big global superstar so she's forced to record poppy stadium anthems with a short lifespan.
This has resulted in tracks with limited vocal range and minimal soul for easy cac digestion.
Lauryn split from cacs when they tried to market her to a wider audience..

I don't know what's being asked here..
Do you want to know who's voice we like better (like their tone or timbre/color) or subjective capabilities (like emotion/soul/feeling ..which is a preference based on opinions that's as varied as there are stars in the sky).

OR
are you talking about showcases the most vocal ability? like technique/range/power/agility ..technical qualities can't be argued. It's a fact that Beyonce has the the more resonant voice and showcases development and proficiency in every register of her range, which is roughly 4 octaves today. Beyonce's mastered her instrument in many ways that only a musician would understand. She's by far the better technical vocalist..as a virtuoso.

I prefer Lauryn's voice, songwriting and music in general. She's more soulful to me, while Beyonce has a different style:she entertains with showmanship, interpretive wit and versatility.. this talent and knowledge in music isn't something to scoff ..still I prefer Lauryn..she's just a more passionate lyricist.
Beyonce's voice itself holds her back..Her instrument ISN'T special in its natural state, BUT what she's developed over the years in terms of control, virtuosity, musicianship and technique puts her on a level above her contemporaries..

I'm not as knowledgeable as you on the intricacies of voice, but I agree. Bey is better at the technicals but Lauryn's vocals have more "soul" to it.

Bey is a beast on a lot of those club tracks tho. To me, that's where she shines the most. I've never been a fan of her on the ballads. She comes off as trying to hard, because her basic voice isn't as "beautiful", so she tries to make up for it with the over the top theatrics (whatever musical term it is, but you know what I'm saying).
