writer destroys T.I.

a-mafia is THAT chit. 50 cent was cool in his prime, but he got a basic game. i never got excited over too many of his generic tunes.

biz markie & busta is split down the middle. busta has no classics, so i went with the biz.

i threw a bone to gillie & currensy. was gonna throw one to young dro as well but i fear kurtis blow is gonna go out like grandmaster caz, so i cant chance it.

gillie can f*ck with big l, btw. dont sleep.
Writer is nice don't get me wrong but he's your typical NY mixtape rappers. He's no better than Papoose imo. nikka played second fiddle to Jim Jones lol. Im not a big T.I. fan but dude is a certified superstar. T.I. brought lyrical credibility to a region that lacks it.

Biz is a legend but he aint fukking with Busta. Busta been around since the early 90s and is still relevant. He has some of most classic verses ever and he was the go to MC for a lot of remixes. At one point he was the remix king. Put Your Hands Where My Eyes Can See can set any party off even in 2014.

Kurtis Blow was a no brainer. He was the first superstar MC and on top of it made a Christmas classic

how is he your "typical NY mixtape rapper" aside from that fact that hes from new york and came up thru the mixtape scene? thats nonsense man. there was nothing like writer when he came out and there hasnt been anything similar since. that writer's block series was its own movement within the movement. this whole idea of grouping everybody that does mixtapes together as generic mixtape rappers has to stop. thats exactly what the powers-that-be want you to think, so they can get away with all the chit that they shovel to the mainstream.

writer played 2nd fiddle to jim jones how? because jones was his under-boss?:comeon:

lol @ T.I. being a superstar. and even if he was, so what?

lol @ busta rhymes being remotely relevant in 2014. just because he pops up everywhere, it doesnt mean that theres any demand for him. sure hes been around all those years, but he has no classic albums to show for it. he'll prolly win and thats wassup, but i stand by my vote.

Not up on ice t like I should be. I've heard Power is amazing though. Went with Game bc his first two albums actually got a lot of burn from me.
@Wacky D you right - never heard anything by JR. Or Gillie. I don't even know who A Mafia is.

im bout to put you on. your whole chit wont be the same afterwards.

we're changing lives with this thread.

Ill tell you exactly how Writer was your average NY mixtape rapper. How many albums did he drop? How many mixtapes did he drop? Its self explanatory. And this was in the era where people still dropped albums. He was 2nd string on Dipset in their heyday. He was nice but he's not even in the same league as T.I. Writer was right there with Pappose and J Hood. T.I. is a boss and has classic songs under his belt. He's the self proclaimed King of the South and nobody disputes it. Dammit your making me defend T.I. lol.

Both Busta and Biz are legends but in Busta has left a much bigger mark on hip hop. Dudes damn near an institution. He larry Holmes status now but he was one of the most consistent rappers in the 90s. nikka has killed countless remixes and has the most memorbale verse on one of the GOAT songs (Scenario)

I forgot to go in on your pick for Currensy over Slick Rick. This one might be worse than JR Writer over TI. I like currensy to but he raps about the same shyt in every song and that's no exageration. Slick Rick might be the greatest storyteller ever. How many nikkas in hip hop get their songs covered? He fathered the style of a bunch of rappers especially Dana Dane and the Fresh Prince. Plus the patch and the Kangol with the big ass gold rope were fly as hell. He a legitimate top 10 contender. You can't say the same for Currensy

the bolded is the exact nonsense that i called out in the previous post.

and whats funny is you tried to pull the "stop using white man rules" card in the group tournament because you were trying to count wutang solo albums as group albums(which was stupid, btw). but now, when that chit actually does reply, you want to play dumb.

and people werent droppin albums all like that in the mid-00s. darn near all the hot chit was on the mixtape scene. AND DIPLOMATS WERE INDEPENDENT on top of that. so yea, you need to practice what you preach WHEN IT ACTUALLY APPLIES, even if its not convenient towards you agenda.

plenty of people have disputed TI from the south and barely anybody down there sees him as a king. he wasnt even the most popular rapper in his state.:smh:

you got the busta rhymes thing. im not gonna argue you down about it. but lol @ him being an institution. being middle road status is not worthy of being called an institution. and sure, hes consistent, but its easy to be consistent when theres no real expectations placed on you because your bar isnt set high.

.

That's apples and oranges. The Wu broke the rules and forced the industry to conform to them. You could argue that the Diplomats even benefited from that. JR Writer was a nice freestyle battle rapper but that doesn't translate well to albums and when your an artist that's the measuring stick just ask Cassidy. T.I. is a self made millionaire while Writer was riding the pine. Your right the mixtape scene was especially hot in NY at the time cuz of what 50 did to it and Writer was one of the best at it but when we're discussing the GOATS and he's up against a man whose been going strong for a decade with platinum albums, a movie, a reality show, and a label under his belt he doesn't stand a chance.

Maybe he would advance if he was up against A-Mafia :mjlol:

wutang broke what rules? and what did that have to do with you counting their solo albums(WHICH WERE CLEARLY SOLO ALBUMS) as group releases just so that you could feel comfortable voting for them past the 2nd round? and how does dipset benefit from them? diplomat is a record label. if anything, dipset benefitted from duckdown. not no wutang.

now back to the matter at hand, you dont even listen to the music. the majority of writer's tapes are legit songs. even the joints that he does over other people's beats, he has hooks and all that alot of the time. LIKE I SAID, youre just programmed to disregard anything that isnt presented to you by a record company. and that chit is corny. i mean cmon son, THIS IS @Wacky D that youre talking to. i dont gas up dudes that cant make tracks when it comes to making music. they dont even get mentioned. im an artist guy. writer had a great run as an artist.

the whole disregard and statements like "typical mixtape rapper" are usually just some chit that is done & said by people that arent even up on the mixtape game.:smh: and the way youre sippin the T.I. propaganda kool-aid, youre sounding very commercial-ish right now. i never saw you as that type of guy. im a bit dissappointed.

The Wu signing a group deal that allowed the artists to sign solo deals with other labels was unheard of back then in any form of music. Without that you think Dipset would be able to sign the type of deal they did where it was a label yes but they functioned more as a group. Remember they were signed as a group to the Roc. The label came under Koch. Another thing about the Wu is that they themselves said all the solo albums were really group albums that featured one member. It was their strategy of divide and conquer.

Back to Writer and T.I. As an MC I like Writer better but Im trying to be as objective as possible and I wouldn't feel right if Im trying to figure out who the GOAT MC is and I pick Writer over TI. Writer is nice but he's no different than Papoose, Uncle Murda, or Red Café. All these nikkas have bars and a gang of mixtapes but whats the music like when the pressure is on? I like Currensy more than Slick Rick personally. But I also like Melo more than Kobe. Some shyt just aint up for debate
