One of the things that many of us were taught during the Civil Rights Movement is that we should always show up and vote. We were also conditioned to believe that voting for the Democratic Party was the easiest and most efficient way to achieve the equality we crave in a fundamentally racist society.
But there have been numerous leaders and scholars who’ve begun to question the idea that political power is the key to black salvation. Even with a black president, African Americans are actually doing WORSE in terms of unemployment, mass incarceration, and many other issues that matter to our community. So what gives?
In this interview, I speak with Dr. Monikah Ogando, a brilliant scholar with two PhDs. She is also the founder of Thrive, an organization that helps women to achieve their goals in life. Dr Ogando and I discuss some of these issues and figure out how economic and political power merge in a society that is designed to hate us. Take a look at the video below or download the podcast. Enjoy!
