I have pac as a goat contender based on what he did in life. all the pile-on bandwagon fans/props/sales after his death, don't help him much in my standings.

This is EXACTLY what I'm saying. No way SFMN'z isn't classic. Cats just wasn't ready for the sound yet. He was TOO militant at this point and cats were smoking weed listening to g-funk. Other than the singles it went over a LOT of people headsPac was smart enough to realize this so he switched up on MATW and got at the females, who he knew he had a base with, and made the production a lot more accessible. But LYRICALLY both his first 2 albums were classics.
I cant say its classic,but its very close to me,has some of my favorite pac tracks of all time,and i actually do ply it pretty much all the way through....Also i think you mentioned being a big Cube fan,i cant help but to see Pac as baby Cube/Chuck D during those first two albums,with that being the case no way does he live up to them on his first two....He shows flashes of coming into his own on S4mn though which are all the brightspots for me....Thug Life is when he puts it all together and he just kept evolving frome there
With that said,if i couldnt help but hear Baby Cube/Chuck D while listening to Pacs first two,what the hell you think i hear when i listened to alot of Macs shyt
