@EthanJSkolnick: As mentioned here previously, once Wade & Bosh opt out, expect Haslem to take 3 years for $8-9M to clear another $1.5-1.9M in space.

TYRONE GA!
He opted out because he is loyal....

Hell probably end up with one of those team jobs (coach, assistant gm, player developement) for the heat.

exactly, Riles and Arison will make sure he eats and has a job for the life of how long Arison owns the team.

Explain it to me because im not understanding much of nba inner office contracts and money and agents and shyt like that. i guess they are trying to free up cap space or something?

Opting out means you do become a free agent. You could go sign with someone else. But in this case, it's most likely Haslem opting out to help the Heat clear cap space. He'll probably sign for the same amount for more years or he'll sign for less and get rewarded with a Heat front office job for life. Look at Mourning, Hardaway and Howard as examples.

At a 65% discount? He can make $54 Million over 4 years assuming the big 3 take paycuts of at least $5-6 million per year each (BTW slightly less than a third of an already discounted contract they signed in 2010). Knicks can offer him $130 Million for 5 years, the Heat don't have any assets that they can trade to NY for a sign and trade. I don't care how much money you have and how thirsty for a championship you are but that just doesn't make sense to me.
This and like others have said before how would the players association take that a star taking that big of a pay cut. Wouldn't that hurt the money of other players and don't think that's what the PA wants but maybe me and others could be wrong. That's why I don't think dude going to Chicago either unless its a S&T or they clear more cap room
