Woman Claims Waffle House in Pinson, Alabama Locked Her Out Due to Race
SHARE U.S.

A woman was reportedly denied entry to a Waffle House in Pinson, Alabama, because of the color of her skin. Jacinda Mitchell took a video last week that showed the doors to the establishment were locked, but that there were white people inside. It led Mitchell to conclude she was refused service because she was a person of color.

“They have the door locked and they have customers in here, and they’re saying that they’re closed. The customers are eating and they happen to be white customers only, and I am an African-American,” Mitchell said in the clip. “They have people that they’re serving, but they’re telling me that they’re closed.”

A black woman claimed she was not allowed to eat at a Waffle House in Alabama because of the color of her skin.

Pat Warner, director of public relations and external affairs for Waffle House, said the company is investigating Mitchell’s allegations.

“We have launched an investigation to gather all of the facts. Waffle House is a welcoming place for everyone, and we are fortunate to enjoy a very diverse and loyal customer base who we do our best to serve every day,” Warner said in a statement to AL.com Thursday.

“The employee involved should not have locked the front door at all and should have certainly opened the door for the customer when she arrived. We will get the facts and take appropriate action quickly.”

Do people ever think about what they are saying when they say this?

Black people can't enjoy shyt, so, we are charged with doing every thing ourselves.

No, we built this country. I bang at any place I want and if they act up we let it be known.

Do people ever think about what they are saying when they say this?

Yes. It's called the American Way. America's Free Market System. When a business oversaturates, the market will correct by another business fulfilling a need or niche.
This country is all about self-empowerment. It's about choice. So why not have the option of having a Waffle House and a Roscoe's Chicken and Waffles? Why do I need to force myself to be somewhere or entertain the irrationalities, insecurities, or ignorance of those who don't want me there in the first place?
If Waffle House doesn't want my money, then I'll give it to Roscoe. Economic boycotting and bad PR are things no business wants. Especially when it has a near-monopoly on a type of business.

Black people can't enjoy shyt, so, we are charged with doing every thing ourselves.

We can enjoy anything we want. But our enjoyment shouldn't be subject to arbitrary emotional fits, ineptitude, or inability to not be myopic by others. We should never have to justify to others our right to enjoy ourselves.

No, we built this country. I bang at any place I want and if they act up we let it be known.

Damn, right. Protest. It's your country and your right. They violate, check'em. But that don't mean I shouldn't have options and be able to exercise them too.

EDIT: removed unnecessary language.

The Bold: :mjpls: No it's not. But, I'll leave that alone.

I'm all for going to another establishment, but, I'm also of the mind black Americans run away too much.

Waffle House is in our neighborhoods and have taken our money through years and kept afloat.

Sometimes it's time to stand up and fight. Make them defend this bullshyt.

Honesty I just think white people deep down want to reserve the right to congregate without black people or other races being around. All of their behavior has always lead to this origin... it is what it is.

This is exactly what they want. Why should they have this luxury and why should we give them this convenience?

They have plenty of nikka free places they can congregate to. Golf courses etc.

Why should they have the luxury of having “nikka free” spaces?

We can enjoy anything we want. But our enjoyment shouldn't be at the mercy of others. We should never have to beg people to allow us to enjoy ourselves.

I hear you and I get what you’re saying but I don’t like this because it reinforces a certain “subservience” dynamic between white and black interaction.

Why is it when we speak of white people, we use words like “entitlement” and “privilege” to describe their demands but on the flip side, refer to our demands as “begging”. You also use the words “mercy” which also betray a certain inferiority dynamic between white and black interaction.

I'm all for going to another establishment, but, I'm also of the mind black Americans run away too much.

Yep, this is what they want us to do. This is what they expect us to do. They want us to feel so uncomfortable in our own gotdamn home, that we would just pick up and leave.

Do people ever think about what they are saying when they say this?

:wow:

And this is the gist of it.

These arguments are getting tired and why black people are never on code and don’t know how to move because we can’t ever agree on anything.

You got one group over here that wants us to retreat and create our “own” space and you got a group over there that doesn’t.

One group thinks the other is trying to be around whites and impose on “their” space and the second group thinks the first is running away.

The fact of the matter is this. White people walk around this country like they own it. This is where their entitlement and supposed privilege stems from. When they see America, they see white history, white accomplishments, white dominance. This dictates how they move and their interactions with other people.

This is what I want black people to understand. America was never just a white country, with white history, with white accomplishments. It is also, at the same damn time, a black country, with black history, black accomplishments, and black dominance.

In my mind and for people like @Easy-E, there is no “their” space and “our” space (which is what white people want us to believe and what they try to enforce). All of it is gotdamn ours (black people). So there is no amount shyt that white people could do to make me want to retreat from what is already mine.

In 2018, other groups should be looking at black Americans the same way they and we view white Americans. They should be saying “black people have such an entitlement complex, they walk around here like they own this bit”, and we should.

People treat you based off of how you move. If a dominant, distinguished, or powerful person walks into the room, there is not much they have to do to command respect. People will already be able to sense it from that person’s aura and fall in line.

Black people have such an inferiority complex about ourselves, that when they see other black people demanding something from white people, they think that we are “begging”. If we don’t even think highly of ourselves, how do you think we’re going to command respect from others?

We’re not on code. We don’t know how to move. We let white people dictate what is “ours” and what is “theirs” when bytch it don’t belong to them in the first place.

Black people tip toe around this country and the country falls in line. If black people walked in a way that commanded respect, with a dominant entitled mentality, that is backed by our own sense of place, history, accomplishment in this land, other people would fall in line.

The truth of the matter is, black people have this beta mentality around whites and we have a beta mentality in this country. White people sense this and play off of it. This is how they’re able to make us feel “unwanted” and “unwelcome” and we let them. We let them make us feel like foreigners in our own land.

Personally, I’m not with the shyt. I’m not about to give a white person the luxury to think that they can retreat into their “own” space devoid of black people. And other black people that understand their sense of place, history, accomplishment, and dominance in America wouldn’t let them either.

Peace and Light.
