Who said anything about making money? Anyone who eats should know where their food comes from and how to provide it for themselves. It is not really a limit on what can be learned, so if children can study x, y, and z; then they can also study basic life skills. No one said that basic life skills should be the sole focus and everything else should be neglected.
Furthermore, most black people in 2016 are not farmers, their grandparents were not farmers, and if white people stopped feeding us then most of us would be out of luck. You may feel comfortable being in that position, and raising children the same way- but I do not. You need food in order to live.
If kids have time to learn video games and rap songs, then they have time to learn the principles of hydroponics (among other things). No one is arguing that should be the sole focus. But black people especially do need to learn basic life skills and trades. It is a shame that we believe otherwise as it is quite limiting.
I've made plenty of posts in the past, about this. The "feeding yourself" thing is hyper-Luddite shyt that people have been saying for like 70+ years and simply will not come to fruition.
Educating the youth is partially a job of parents. I grew up in a heavily Christian household that also had Black art, books, and language in it. People are really acting like its the US education system's job to teach the children about who they are as a person. Its not. Umar is trying to make the entire curricula about that (I guess, no one has actually seen these "plans" so I can't be too sure).
You're using a lot of Afro-centrist language to make it seem like you grasp the entire scope of the issue, but its falling kind of flat unfortunately.
As a Bolivarian, Nasserist, and Afro-Socialist, I can tell you that the "burning building" will be burning for a long time, and its better to usher our children into it than to have them die in the elements outside because they're "not White."
This sounds lovely, but it hardly applies to anything that I have said.
Educating the youth is not "partially" the job of parents. Parents are 100% responsible for educating their children. Parents are 100% responsible for making sure their children have access to the resources and skills they need in order to thrive.
You are free to integrate your children into whatever you want, and I am free to choose a different direction. You are free to raise good employees (which is very important), while I will spend my time raising employers. You are free to raise children who will compete for a better spot at the table of oppression, while I will be far away - at my own table and teaching my children how to build their own. Yes indeed, those tables will be much smaller but they will belong to them and no one else.
It's a sad state when people believe that the only choices are go into a burning house or die outside. That's the type of mindset that lacks reason, logic, and accountability - that is why I cannot allow my children to be educated by people who think that way.
