What are black people going to do about it? We get disrespected on a the daily, spat upon by whites from all walks of life, rarely responding with more than a day of tweets and the occasional march. A governor and his Attorney General have admitted to wearing blackface, joking to the press about moon walking while dressed as Michael Jackson and break dancing to the sounds of Kurtis Blow, but neither one of them have been forced to step down. An A-list actor goes on a press junket for his an upcoming release and casually mentions the time he spent a week stalking the streets of Northern Ireland for a black man to lynch, yet I guarantee you there will be more than a few black people filling the seats in theaters to watch that film.

If I had the means I would buy the weapon and put it on display as a way of showing how flawed the legal system is.
I wouldn't buy it and bury it away somewhere. I would buy it to keep it out of people's hands who love and envy it in a sick and hateful way. But I would put it in a display much like replicas of the Booths Deringer that was used to kill Lincoln.
I think it's more of our (black people's) story than it is anyone else's. I wish we had more means to preserve and control the narrative.
