As if any rapper is about to put out like 3 #1 singles back to back. As if pop sales even follow the same trends as rap sales. Rihanna goes platinum with every release despite average to low first week sales because those big singles don't stop. :ld:

Pop sales are more trendy than rap sales. The loyalty isn't there. If a Pop artist doesn't consistently put out hit songs, they won't sell. Some of them consistently drop hits and still don't sell. The Pop audience is the most fickle audience of any genre of music. It's why artists that have gone Pop experience that huge peak once they crossover, but then have a huge drop off the next album or a couple of albums later. The artists that survive are the ones who continue to set trends or have found a way to successfully follow the ones already set.

Yea I was really hoping my man cracked 200k.

but the interesting thing is going to be the longevity. Wale may have a couple more singles to give this a nice run. Look at 2chainz. his album did 135k first week and ended up topping off at 600k and as much as I fukk with 2chainz that wasnt a good album by any means he just had singles to give it some wheels.

Cole sold more than Wale 1st week last time, I think Cole did get a nice bump going head up against Yeezus (smart and ballsy move by him for moving it). W/o it I think Cole still does over 200 though.

:heh: @ 160k being bad numbers for Wale...i don't know what kind of expectations y'all have for these rappers in 2013, especially an act like Wale...he did 160k with Ambition and people were shocked and amazed and damn near throwing him a parade...if he does it again this time or somewhere remotely close to it, he should consider it a blessing that he can now say he has been able to sustain a successful rap career over the course of several albums...he could very well be putting up French Montana numbers out here...or more fitting, Wale's first album Attention Deficit (28K) numbers..J. Cole is a bigger artist than him, but that ain't got shyt to do with Wale...not anymore than Drake being bigger than Cole got shyt to do with him...nikkas gotta get in where they fit in...

Wale should have pushed his album to last week also. Rising Tide lifts all boats. People were really buying last week. He could have picked up another 30-50k off the strength of people picking up Ye, Cole, and Mac Miller. There has to be crossover fans who would have dropped $10 more.
