They wouldn't know when they hit 50% on a certain album counting while they are counting all the album sales. So I think it's the percentage of all sales they have gone through.

So if everything else is constant, he should sell something like 3 times of that at 100%, which is around 300K, doesn't sound right considering he was predicted to sell 160K?
