Sergey's ability to keep the fight on the outside and counter Ward coming in is my only fear

... I see check hooks and step back, counter 1-2's in the future :lupe:

True but I don't see KKKovalev trying to outbox Dre...

Trying to counter with Dre on the outside is dumb, you are not going to beat that man fighting his fight...Dre is a lot like BHop with his ability to control the pacing of the fight so i see KKK pressing Dre more into some exchanges the same way he did BHop...I see KKK utilizing his outside game more as a way to set up those uppercuts on the inside...He knows he's fighting a guy who doesn't let his hands go often and throw many combos...Plus KKK is the bigger man...Pressing the controlled boxer out of his element is what KKK wants here...

Dre is going to have to use that right hand often in this fight and get dirty...He's not going to be able to sit back and control KKK...The swim without getting wet strategy in this fight won't work...Dre is going to have get wet...

Pretty much, he needs to get inside and give that inside work to Kovalev. Pretty much like he did with Froch. Kovalev isn't effective on the inside if someone tries to bring the fight there he retreats and try to find his comfortable range again to gain motion to his barrage of jabs and power punches. Ward basically can't let this happen. But I think he has enough ring IQ to know that against Kovalev it's not successful if he plays his hunter - hunted game and tries to survive o the outside.

B-Hop didn't succeed against Kov but Ward is better than a 49 years old Hop, much better and maybe this gives cause for a lot of argument but I dare to say that prime Ward is even better than prime Hopkins.

Also as good Kovalev's offense is, his defense has obvious holes...
Pascal hit him plenty of times with his looping not even particularly fast power punches. Ward is way faster, more precise and more calculated than Pascal and also able to defend himself while he's closing the distance and throw something.

For the record...
Wasn't trying to compare a :flabbynsick: BHop to Dre...Thats insanity...Just making a point you cannot let those two control the pace of the fight...They are very calculated boxers that don't like to waste punches...

Make no mistake about it KKK got a way with a lot against that version of BHop than had he fought a younger BHop which is more of what he's dealing with in Andre Ward...

Sergai gets EMBARRASSED by prime Roy..not sure how the Bernard from 2001 would of done. He was pretty slick with his grabbing and then picking his spots.

Ward's footwork/jab is far superior to Kkkov's so if he want's to keep it on the outside and lose 12-0, I'm sure ward's fine with that.

But that's 100% against kkkov's style even when he fought B Hop he was one his front foot a lot. If b-hop wasn't my grandpas age he could have kkkov quite a few times the way he was leaning in. Ward isn't too old too pull the trigger.

Ward has talent everywhere.. Fast hands, accurate punches, short punches... Good defense, not mayweather like but still good... But what impresses me the most is his feet work, there's that space between him and the fighter and his quick enough to see a punch come that he takes a quick step back... That can pose a problem for kovalev if he can't touch cuz of that... So I can see ward being successful in the outside but I still say his best bet in the inside, I expect him to do a lot of punch and grab.. He's going to fight like he did to froch... It's a 50/50 fight.

I think Hopkins stopped throwing once he got hit, his corner kept on telling him to throw certain punches and he wouldn't.
