But I'm saying how is that good? You don't control getting sick or injured and it's the coaches decision to rest players. This isn't like getting participation in school. It's like penalizing players for unfortunate accidents imo.

It wouldn't be a penalty though. It would merely be an incentive. Nothing more or less. The players who get injured, take games off or are suspended wouldn't be penalized any more than if the incentive didn't exist. However, the players who happen to play all 82 games would receive a $1M bonus.

But it feels like it would be. And it would be unfair to players because some players are just role players that come off the bench and don't need rest and aren't at as much risk for injury. It's just unnecessary.

Those who wouldn't be able to play 82 games are not being penalized. A penalty is a disciplinary measure in the form of loss of liberty, property, or even life. If the incentive existed, those who can't play 82 wouldn't be losing anything.

Incentives exist in sports contracts anyways. All major league teams place incentive-laden bonuses in player contracts. The players who miss out on those bonuses aren't being punished.

But you're wasting money for no reason. Those who don't play aren't playing because of reasons beyond their control so it's not really an incentive either. It doesn't make the slightest sense.
