Was '99 the year when Wu Tang started to show cracks in the armor with jawns like Rae's Immobilarity, GZA's Beneath the Surface, Dirt's Ni$%a Please+

I loved Forever, but heads a lil older than me were not feeling a track like "It's Yours", talkin' about the production was TOO polished:pachaha:

I only liked a few joints on Forever.

Probably because I wanted the whole album to sound like "Cash Still Rules/Scary Hours". That's the sound I was expecting. But RZA said he switched it up by the time he started working on this album and had different things he was using for the beats. I wasn't a fan of that, lol.

The RATM tour fiasco prob plays a role in there too right.

Rae's entire standing/image/rank/etc shifted by not dropping an album in 97/98 with RZA/affiliate beats. If that had happened it would have been very successful and ushered another run. But by that time shyt was too egotistical to continue.

When you think about how fast a rapper can go from the shyt to just shyt, it’s funny :russ:
Yea breh. Not gonna lie tho I always felt like Cap was slightly overrated. He did his thing on Cuban Linx but nikkas was gassed over that Winter Warz verse. I never understood the hype over that verse. It was mad long and he had some wack bars like

Ran over by the Method Man jeep :scust:

In battling you don’t want me to start tattling

Get stuck on stupid like I’m stuck on the map

All he had was flavor and flashy style

He was like a poor man’s Ghostface to me

He had moments like my favorite of his is his song 97’ Mentality

But overall he was corny lmao

97 Mentality is a classic. Love the Canibus freestyle over that beat too

Forever is one of my favorite albums of all time :hubie:

I never knew it had as many detractors as it does until years later. We lived with that album for a couple years. That was A++ rapping throughout, production was different from the past but it needed that more cinematic quality to mark the culmination of the 5 Year Plan :wow:
