Yes, especially during that time period. Nowadays when u hear a city got a murder rate of almost 100 per 100k u think nothing of it, but bacc then it wasnt usual, and the fact that compton was in sunny palm trees and beaches California made it even crazier.

Ft Worth, Texas: 200 homicides

New Orleans:197 homicides

Washington DC:196 homicides

Miami,FL: 146 homicides

Oakland, CA: 129 homicides

The problem is..."murder rates" don't tell the whole story.

NYC was far more dangerous in 1990 when you include every violent crime.

Eitherw way I can't really engage in these types of discussions with people who weren't alive to see it for themselves.

EPA had like 30,000 ppl compared to cities with millions.

New Orleans probably had the worst overall murder rate in the 90s when u consider it was a major city with a murder rate of 86 per 100k.

From what I gathered over the years and research, knowing ppl from these places the cities that I think were the worst were LA, NYC, and Dallas.

Ppl see Dallas and think im biased, but dont realize how bad Dallas was and part of that is due to BROOKLYN JAMAICANS setting up shop in dallas in the mid 80s.

I know a OG from south dallas that told me them Jamaican nikkas tried to take over a blocc in Dallas so one day they tossed live hand grenades in an apartment complex in broad daylight

Doesn't surprise me, I mean I've never been to Dallas, but I can tell you that without looking at actual stats..and just on some real life shyt....if you were to travel from DC to B More to Philly to Camden to Newark and up to BK back in 1990....it all LOOKED THE SAME.

The danger pretty much appeared to be the same no matter where you went.


You could get jumped in DC just as quickly as you would have in East Flatbush.

I know RIchmond VA at one point had the highest murder rate on the East coast. Can u speak on that?

Do u think drug dealers from up north played a major part in that or were Richmond nikkas really just bustin their guns like that?
I ask because other places that up north nikkas migrated too didnt get nearly as bad as Richmond did

nah never been there...funny enough my extended fam is from there....I went on a black college tour in HS in 1995 and was in VA and a lot of what I saw in the neighborhoods reminded me of Jersey's slums

And as far as guns are concerned, my guess is that the "gun culture" came from down south and brought up north mixed with the drug game. Guns have always been easier to acquire in the south. I'm sure the ones in NYC at the time were imported from places like VA en mass.
