As far south as the Brits got I don't understand why they didn't recruit more slaves to fight with them.

I know, I'm sayin its surprising they didn't have greater numbers from slaves. Hell, since they were at war they should've slave raided for those extra troops. I can't remember how many former slaves were under the British by the time of surrender but I'm sure some had to be returned to their masters.

the colonies were vast, British troop numbers were small relative to the land mass of the colonies, there was no way they could go around raiding plantations in the south when the bulk of the fighting was in the north

and the british promises of freedom were tepid (a lot of royalists were in the south and were slave owners) and were made more to cause chaos not really to get new troops, for a professional army slaves would be of limited use
