way ahead of its time. That slowed down reverb production. The subject matter Wayne was rapping about bars way back then in such a creative way. I think most of his music from that era has aged horribly but this one has stood the test of time.

This wasn't ahead of its time, but it was a huge song. This song and the other leaks is why people were disappointed with C3.

In terms of the influence, I don't know. The so called "druggie" being popular has been a thing since the late 90's. We can knock Eminem as trash all day, but he was like the poster child druggie. That whole depressed, druggie persona was Slim Shady. Three Six Mafia is in that lane too. The difference is the whole depressed angle as they were at the other end of the spectrum, which was more hype/Crunk, but they could lay it back too. We can't act like "Sippin On Syrup" wasn't huge or that poppin pills wasn't a big part of their content.

That wasn’t the case with this. As soon as this song dropped it sparked the change from admiring the seller to admiring the user

And at the same time ‘prostitute flange’ sparked the change from smashing n dashin hoes to fallin in love with em.
You're overrating the influence of those songs something crazy.

"Admiring the user" has something that has always been an undercurrent in rap, and if you wanna credit the boom to anyone (or in this case, any place) during the 2000s, than it would be Houston. DJ Screw is largely responsible for that sound/movement. The homie above has already mentioned "Sippin On Syrup" which put it on the big stage, and then lean essentially became a mainstay in rap, which Wayne came in well after the fact and made an image off it.

Plus, it's always seeped in and out of pop music for decades, especially with how mainstream hip-hop has become over the last 20 years, where it's taken on more of white lens, where you've got all these alternative-type rappers, which Wayne undoubtedly tried to prosper off too with Rebirth.

And please, nxggas been rapping about falling in love with hoes since day one.

He had his influence (a lot of it being debatable), but I swear y'all be doing the most to give him credit for shyt he wasn't responsible for.

Would have never seen the light of day if it hadn’t leaked of The Drought Is Over 2 Carter 3 Sessions (classic mixtape btw, was bumping it the other day actually). The empire did wayne a solid in the long haul because it elevated waynes career even more imo. It built more hype for C3 which was the album that turned him into a superstar. I heard wayne be performing some songs from the tape. Ironically he can’t even remember the actual C3 album.
