The clan would've died regardlessit was either the clan dies or the clan dies and a lot of leaf dudes also die, he chose the 1 with the least causalities.
He was slightly a c00n tho because the Uchiha were just trying to fight the injustice that the 2nd Hokage instilled into the Leaf Village

Yeah the Uchiha were inherently miserable and crabs, killing their best friends and family just to upgrade their eyes. They didn't have loyalty to each other, Itachi had no choice.

I was rewatching the series. Hearing Tobirama and Hiruzen talk about Kagami Uchiha having the "Will of Fire" struck me on some "He's one of the good ones

Itachi choosing village over clan was choosing a Nation that despises over his own People. Perhaps he should have just taken Sasuke and leave the village if he didn't want him to die in the coup attempt.

2nd hokage was right about them. They were destined to go to war with every other clans because they saw themselves as superior. An uchiha led leaf village would not have been a peaceful place.

"Problematic" doesn't even begin to cover the concept behind that entire clan.
They were despised for good reason, they'd constantly go to war with other clans if not kept in check.
Itachi just wanted peace, and he knew that the uchiha didnt understand peace. The history of the leaf village is about all the other clans having to link up under the first hokage because the uchiha were slaughtering the other clans relentlessly.
They'd turn into nazis if the foot wasn't permanently on their neck.

The one Uchiha that he should've killed end up being one of the strongest ninjas in existence who tried destroying the village anyway and practically turned into a super weapon under orochimaru, and had he killed Naruto, he likely would've killed everyone else, destroyed his humanity, would've taken Madara's (or kakashi, obito? Idk he would've taken somebody's eyes) eyes and then used the tsukyomi on the whole world. So in hindsight him actually killing everybody would've been very beneficial.
Like really, their whole clan is dependent on them killing each other to grow stronger, most of them were going to kill each other at some point and they're power hungry as fukk, they had to die. The very fact Sauske had a kid means he's playing with fire because they also have an extremely hateful spirit that reincarnates himself down their lineage that threatened the world the last two times he was reborn.
