I was listening to music the other day on shuffle and "Who u Wit" came on.

And at the beginning of the song Jay says:

Pa-Pause, feel me on this one.
Pa-Pause, feel this

I never realized this until then. I was like :ohhh:This was like 1997.

Was anyone else using it back then and I just never noticed it as a kid?

probably so. He also used on blueprint before I had heard any other rapper use

“Where y’all balls at, whoa, gotta pause that, whoa, loss 92 bricks had to fall back”

I don't think he really used it the way it was used in slang on that record.
If it's just rappers saying PAUSE, Run DMC had a song called Pause years earlier.
East coast been saying that shyt, I lived in the DMV and Philly during the late 90’s early ‘00’s and we used that shyt on the regular.

no, it’s been in the english language for a long time. I’m sure there are more earlier rap records with pause in it.

He wasn't rapping but on the outro of Can I Like pt 2 he mentioned Pause this was 1996.

"All my cats with open cases
Big cars, and no license
I like that shyt
I see y'all
All my nyggas that say pause after they say some fukkked up shyt
Rock on, Jigga shyt
Roc-A-Fella forever yo, uh"
