Hammer had some hard joints in the 80's... Back when there was only a hand full of lyricist in hiphop

Even tho he wasnt lyrical Hammer stood out because dancing was still a relevant, importing element in hiphop back then

There were plenty of lyricists in the late 80s. Hammer also stood out because he was one of the worst rappers at that time. He was the sh!t live though...can't front on that.

You could get a legit workout keeping up dancing with him in his music videos.

Hammer just got a lot of flak for his financial woes but he wasn't bad at all during his prime.

He just fell hard after that 2 Legit 2 Quit album. His success in pop culture at that time put the bar up too high after that album. I knew there was no way he could duplicate that with The Funky Headhunter and I was right

You can't think of this the way you think of music now. There was very little outlet for black music outside of radio and clubs. No social media. No youtube. Magazines were out once a month and limited to what was printed. I really don't think young cats appreciate how quickly and thoroughly information is presented now. So when he came out nationally and they were playing, "Let's Get it Started" on the radio and my friend's cousin used to talk about this dude's songs from the club, he was like this mystery dude. I remember Yo, MTV raps was like the first good look at dude and what his show was about. And you might see his videos once in a while. So he kinda became this mysterious cool people rapper at first. That whole Troop Suit and British Knights set, with that west coast swag. Then the radio caught on, and he blew up. If you hear a good song now, it might be on Pandora and you immediately get the name, can do a search and probably watch the video and performances. Probably impossible to gain that unknown club hype the way he did at first.

...when I saw Hhis Behind The Music Story, and saw how he lost AWLL his money, cuz he basically took the entire Bay out on tour with him to help feed their families, I gained a whole new respect for him
