Thats where the script issues sort of failed the character. Leon did the best with what he was given. However, they were trying to portray the fact he "died" the same day Nutso did. Felt guilty about living and being around people cause of the shame.Shepherd was such a bum man. Older brother running off on his mom and siblings, comes back, and still doesn’t embrace him.
They shoud have highlighted how Nutso was on track to be a superstar as well and Shep's silly game robbed him (fam/friend & hood) of that future.
