I actually remember watching that run when it originally aired because my grandma got me into watching gameshows when I was little. Dude trained himself to watch for the light patterns on the board so he could avoid 'Whammies'. There's a whole documentary about it.​

Said he almost fukked up because he didn’t think to figure out a pattern to get out the game without losing all his money.

What this dude did was analogous to the stand-up arcade game of Pac Man. I don't remember where I learned it, but there was a pattern in the maze that, if followed, would allow you to play indefinitely off one quarter....

Dude figured out the patterns...

He has a skill...too bad be couldn't parlay it into something else. Different time he could have been a film and sports analytics guy for a pro team. Dude had multiple TVs in the home to learn the press your luck 5 patterns at the time....and then had to figure out the timing of the press once he got there.
