I actually rented this movie from blockbuster when it came out on DVD back then. Along with the 1st GI Joe and Pelham 123 all 3 were duds. Then I forgot all about them and had to pay like 75 dollars for them mid ass movies. And no it's not a good movie .

It lacks Mann's signature momentum, or real insight into the characters, but it has everything else. It feels kind of stalled at times. Reminds me of Ali a little. Reminds me of Ferrari a little too.

dope shootout sequences, great score, there's at least two sequences were the movie comes to life, the shootout towards the end in the woods, and the final killing of Dillinger at the movies. Those are masterful.

Good performances, from Cottilard too. And all the supporting characters. John Ortiz in a signature Mann role. The guy who played the Coronel in Avatar. The p*ssy ass US Marshal.

The premise sounds dope but when I saw it the whole movie was filmed with super fine live cameras it ruined the movie for me... if the movie was supposed to be a movie set in the past it should have looked like that utilizing classic cinematic cameras...

That was my MAJOR MAJOR gripe with miami vice too. After collateral he was trying to replicate that lightning in a bottle and it wasnt working!!! ill try to siit and finish it one day off.
