I'm Rakim the Fiend of a Microphone
I'm not HIM, so leave my mic alone
Soon as the beat is felt, I'm ready to go
So fasten your seatbelt, cause I'm about to flow
No need to speed slow down to let the leader lead
Word to daddy, indeed

This song dropped July 25 1988..was probably in the streets way before that...was the rakim/Kane debate going on during that time?
Was he talm bout Kane?

Or after I just thought about it he was playing off "Word to the mother" ??

Nah, but he did send a shot at him on "Hypnotic"

MC's are O.D.in', he couldn't cope
Nope, see him, looks like he had a mic full of opium
And I don't wanna have to get sarcastic
Thoughts and soft minds go far past it
And I don't sniff no 'caine/kane to get raw
I don't stress my brain, it ain't pure
I smoke beats and my product's the topic
Every rhyme is hypnotic

Kane called out Rakim back then for the 1 on 1 freestyle battle but Ra never responded. Kane has been asking for them problem for years.
Lol, Kane was scared to take it wax where bars would really play a factor instead of theatrics, end of story

yes he was. And in Microphone Fiend he said, "your rhymes are minute maid" subtle dissing Kane in the juice crew. Then in the let the rhythm hit em, the section he took out

Ripping your wrath in half, who gets the last laugh
followers become leaders without a path

Kane had a song called Wrath of Kane. Ra was forever throwing shots that we only figured out 30+ years later. I just discovered on websites he was dissing KRS One and LL Cool J on the Let the rhythm hit em albums.

Ra wanted to trade sublims on wax, Kane wanted to smoke live and in technocolor via an actual battle

Ra is my favorite of the two but he was not seeing Kane on that level. KRS was the only nikka at the time that was a threat to him and even then I wonder

Ra said that particular line wasn't about Kane. But there was a little tension there.
