I prefer it to the Dark Knight. One, this universe fits more in line with the wider DC universe. I could easily see Superman, Flash and Wonder Woman being in this same world whereas Nolan made a hyper-realistic crime drama that those characters could never fit in. Two, they got Gotham right. I felt the corruption and dark nature of the city in every scene. Gotham felt like a character. I never felt that in Nolan's series. Three, the Riddler was never that much of an interesting character to me but, The Batman made him seem terrifying. When done right, he's basically Jigsaw. Four, it was interesting to show Batman as traumatized and slightly disturbed. Because IRL, he would have been.

They took every opportunity to try to point out that “Gotham City is ruined because of Old WHITE Men.”

But:

A) Don’t play with us. Don’t attach all this brand new fucc chit to Thomas Wayne’s name,
that is not canon.

B) If that’s the case, how you got the two main villians as Italian?

C) Supposedly the main victims were the neglected White children. Old White Men in my experience
seem very concerned about the next generation of White children, so I didn’t buy that.

Yeah that line stuck out like a sore thumb to me. I think there was something else, but can’t remember.

Movies today always have these cringy woke lines that I don’t think will hold up well compared to older movies.

I liked the movie a lot.

I love the theme.

I felt this movie had Batman in it more than Bruce Wayne.

I always wanted a Batman movie that mostly focused on Batman.

It’s not the best, but it’s pretty good.

It was the best depiction of Batman on the big screen to me. That first couple of minutes in the beginning with the monologue was a masterpiece of who Batman is and what he means to the city especially with that score behind it. I rewatch only that part every couple of months with the sound system cranked up :banderas:

That movie came and went. You rarely hear anyone mention it and I was struggling to remember any details until I read through the thread.

They nailed the visuals and the tone but made huge missteps.

They're was a complete lack of distinction between Bruce and Batman. He might as well been in costume the whole movie.

Way too much going on and 15-20 minutes could easily be trimmed. Should have just focused on one villain. We didn't need Penguin and a Joker cameo.

I always feel like they need to streamline the costume so Batman can fight in it. Even in the Nolan movies the movement is too stiff and fights suck because of it.

For a detective movie the detective work wasn't compelling.

Riddler wasn't that memorable and his plan in the 3rd act felt out of place.

Batman looked weak at the end getting handled by a goon. Ending was anticlimactic.

7/10
