It is easy to understand. You play a role in hurting and humiliating someone, there is a good chance that you will be on the receiving end of their retaliation.
I expect people to act with sense I.e if someone didn't know what the situation was, leave them be providing they don't run their mouth off.
If it is a partners work colleague, there is a good chance that they've met and been in one another's home.

The wife was wrong, but it is one of those things where people would/will give the wife a pass due to the nature of the situation...
I personally believe that private matters should stay private, but I also understand why people would pubically announce things in order to punish or shame the alleged perpetrator...
