Was war really that gully before modern weapons?

Which type of war front would be the worst to get caught in?

:yeshrug:makea no difference. Death is death .

Brutality changes over the ages.

If you were 500 b.c, your whole concept of life and death would be drastically different from now
I disagree. I think a slow death is very different than a quick one.

You're probably just braver than me.

One thing for sure, modern medicine of today is much better for the injured. Now you get shot or caught too close to a bomb they might save you. Back then you get shot in the leg it’s “aight just cut the leg off and cauterize it with this torch”:sadcam:

one of the many things that fascinates me about ancient warfare are city walls.
2400 BC:

guy looking around: There are allot of people living here now, we should build a wall.
another man: Yeah, I was talking to some other man about that yesterday.
guy: it's only a matter of time, after all.
another man: :beli:

back then, cities would invade other cities.
imagine if Boston raised an army and invaded NYC.
that's the kinda shyt that is amazing to me.
you had to build a fukking wall around your city or you weren't shyt.

and then you have sieges of cities that could go on for years. :whoo:

The way Rome sacked Syracuse...:why:

that shyt still works tho. the ypg couldn't get thru this old ass wall without heavy losses so america had to airstrike it for them. :pachaha:

Ancient war was worse

most people died going to war due to weather/lack of food disease at least in modern war that’s eliminated

also if you’re wounded in war in ancient times you were good as dead either you bled to death or got infection at least with modern war you have a medic with modern treatment

Yeah but white people made war kind of retarded at one point. Like the civil war. People really met up on an open field with muskets and just walked towards eachother :scusthov:

samurai battle had to be out of this world to watch. Imagine best swordsman who survived until the end had to have dropped 50+ bodies during the battle.

From everything I've read as well war was less deadly before the modern age(speaking strictly in terms of casualty rate)

Although in saying that, I wouldn't want to be on the other side of a pissed of Roman or Mongol army :picard:

wouldn't wanna be on the side of any losing army in the ancient world cause if they don't kill you after you surrender there's an excellent chance you'd be going into slavery.
