The Battle of Cannae was basically described as a daylong long knife fight. Plus those armies had to walk everywhere. In his book ‘Hannibal’ Dodge says the ancient world was definitely more brutal, but says modern warfare is more deadly because of firearms and artillery. And he fought in the Civil War, so image how much more it is today with air support and modern bombs and weaponry.

I disagree. Medieval war was far deadlier, you just were more likely to die from shyt ‘off’ the battlefield than on. Fukkin plagues and shyt.

Then let’s say you get injured, they’re gonna let some barber hack your leg off with no anaesthesia and maybe hit you up with some leeches.

World War I was the most brutal.
Trench warfare where you are stuck in one position for weeks or months blindly firing at the muzzle flash of the enemy position.

Mustard gas randomly being dropped that that turns your lungs into swiss cheese if you cant get your mask on in time or if its damaged.

Poor weapon technology leading to your gun constantly jamming and bullets being less immediately lethal.

Today you will be dead quickly if you get hit with an AK or AR.
Back in the day you got shot and then laid on the ground in pain bleeding out slowly while the only medic left stuffs a dirty rag in the wound and then moves on to the next injured soldier.

Believe it or not, warfare back then wasn't like the movies. The two sides rarely fought to the last man. They'd rout and retreat to just give up territory or whatever. And weapons were used differently as well, but that's another topic.

trench warfare was suicide in many ways unless you were the last to go out. Then you have a chance but that's it. For what it's worth war is better these days.

Yes, you had to have hands. The war referee would tell, 1,2,3, go! Then the two sides would run up throwing hands. Whichever side got the best hands win the war and get all the gold and wine and shyt like that that was important back in the day. Then weapons came in the game and fukked everything up

Plus the nikkas on the sidelines playing the trumpet and drums. shyt was like a high school football game
