Manning was charged with communicating national defense information to an unauthorized source, espionage, theft, computer fraud, and other crimes. Though not convicted of the most serious charge, that of “aiding the enemy” (see, Espionage Act) Manning was found guilty on 19 counts, and is serving a 35-year sentence. Snowden too faces (in the event he returns) two charges under the Espionage Act and another for theft of government property.
In Clinton’s case, it’s unclear she violated the law. Although, from reading about it from the point-of-view of her critics, the two worst scenarios would be if she was found guilty of violating 18 U.S.C. § 2071, which states anyone who “willfully and unlawfully conceals, removes, mutilates, obliterates, or destroys,” public records, or attempts to do so, has committed a felony. Depending on the severity, if charged, the person may only have to pay a fine.
Patreus openly shared classified information with an unauthorized source
My point was the striking similarity of their actions..No one is saying that they deserved the same prosecution or penalty but at the very least it raises serious doubts about her fitness for office
Nothing new. Reagan with Iran Contra was one of the most egregious acts by a president and....nothing. At least Slick Willy got impeached. Calling out government double standards brehs. Didn't McDonnell just get off while Jesse Jackson Jr. went to the pokey?
