Keys resort staff accused of stealing from guests

Workers at a popular Islamorada resort are accused of stealing guests’ credit card information and using it for personal shopping sprees.
Victims identified by police and hotel management reported a total of $4,186.97 in fraudulent charges.
The alleged ringleader of the operation, Anthony Burley, 38, reportedly used his and other employees’ passwords to access the computer system at the Post Card Inn Beach Resort and Marina at Holiday Isle.
According to the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office, other employees would ask Burley, from Homestead, to buy goods using the credit card information. In exchange, the employees would pay Burley half the price of the items purchased, said sheriff’s office spokeswoman Deputy Becky Herrin.
The alleged scheme was discovered by Post Card Inn management, who turned over a “large amount of records” to Sheriff's Office Detective Robert Dosh, Herrin said.
The other employees suspected in the operation are Ashley Collier, 26, from Homestead; Consuela Morris, a 39-year-old from Florida City; and William Lewis, 23, from Homestead.
According to Herrin, Collier admitted knowing Burley was using employee passwords to access the hotel computer system to collect credit card information.
All four suspects each face five felony criminal conspiracy counts, one count of participating in a scheme to defraud using communications technology and five counts of fraud using the identification of another person without his or her consent.
Burley was arrested in Miami-Dade County on Nov. 4. He is in the Monroe County jail on $110,000 bond. Lewis was also arrested in Miami-Dade, on Oct. 27, and released from jail after posting his $88,000 bond.
