Jason's lyric along with Poetic Justice were chick flicks even back then. Love Jones is definitely a better flick, and it had a fire soundtrack.

Jada Pinkett’s characters name was Lyric.You mean to tell me you got a retired Vietnam war veteran with a mental illness, his ex-wife traumatized by the change in his behavior, two brothers — one which killed the dad trying to protect the mom while the other was in & out of jail (likely suffering from that trauma)… with great foundation with the backdrop being mid 90s Houston…
AND THE MAJORITY OF THE FILM IS A LOVE STORY CENTERED AROUND JADA fukkING PINKETT
no focus on how a traumatic event can lead two brothers on two separate paths??!? We had to get TWO sex scenes of Jason and Jada but damn near none of Josh’s growth being an ex-con or how his mother is dealing with the pain?!?

I never saw it.
From all accounts, Jada was throwing it and niccas was catching it. I can't hate on a heaux being a heaux.
But watching it now on MGM plus, I can believe Treach draw and quartered Bokeem, that's some medieval shyt in the 90s. Then just let that nicca go after that, guess he figured he wasn't calling the cops.

I thought she was cute, but not super bad or anything.
Lots of other actresses out there looked better than her.
They tried to make her out to be this deep, introspective person in the movie.
Just some minimum wage chick who wanted to get out of the hood.

Jason's Lyric was one of those movies that true playas kept in the collection for when we had a young tenderoni coming over. That was one of our go-tos decades before Netflix & chill ever existed.

Jada’s character was full of shyt in Menace too. She was always talking like she was so serious and a strict mother, but she lets her 5 year old son hang around a fukking serial killer in O-Dog, and a bunch of other murderers.
