1996/97 was probably the best years for Austin because he was hungry as hell. Dude didn't give a damn about anybody but himself. His feud with Bret Hart will forever be my favorite feud in the WWF/E because it felt natural even though they were cool with each other. Once Austin and Mcmahon became a thing, I stopped giving a shyt about the character.

Seriously, dude went up in Pillman's crib and almost got his head blown off:lupe::krs::ooh:. The mark in me was like :ohhh:Pillman is really going to kill Austin.

Man....96/97 Attitude era>>>>>>98-01 Mcmahon circle jerk
'96 Raw really isn't that good. Watching guys like Austin/Foley come up is great, but the undercard is terrible.

Smoking Gunns, Hodgewinns, etc. is not good.

The purpose of a promo is to talk people into a match, the PPV, the arena, etc

Damn near NOBODY was on hulks level for thst

Hulkamania was literally Hogan barking fans into a frenzy, and flexing. There is no comparison between he and cm punk.
Thats the thing though. For me, ive never paid to watch a Hogan match. I was a Warrior stan. Punk had the pipebomb that made me tune into a B level ppv to see what he was going to do next. That is the difference for me personally. But i def get why Hogan would top most peoples lists. He was talented

Shawn Michael wasn't good either. He was a joke compared to how Hall invaded WCW and was stopping matches:laugh:

Hogan had great charisma but some of his promos were hit or miss. I cant place him above Punk for that. But when he was on he was ON.
Hogan heel turn promo is probably more on point and better than anything Punk ever did historically. Punk got very good at doing the Deadpool 4th wall breaking bull $hit. Fans liked that smark shyt...as it went on into year two, it sounded like whining instead of good character promo content ala Jake Roberts on Macho and Elizabeth.

What rock promo/speech whatever was more iconic than this?

No one can handle more different crowds and atmospheres like Rocky.

And Rock This is Your Life is more ingenious than that the Austin kickoff promo...the thing about the Austin promo is that it was a good off the cuff moment. But no one reacted better to a crowd reactions LIVE than the Rock.

He had way too many ingenious moments in 99. You just won't see that stuff ever again.

Hogan's heel turn promo wasnt all that good. Dont get me wrong, it delivered but it wasnt classic because of what he said. The prospect of a heel Hulk is what carried that notion. A GREAT heel promo is Randy Savage's promo on Hogan before wrestlemania 5. A GREAT heel promo is Cane Dewey. A GREAT heel promo is Jake Roberts promo on Savage at Survivor Series 91.

Not only is he one of the best promoers in the company (Foley, Pillman, and Owen are up there too), but he was really technically sound. Everything he did in the ring was great from a psychological standpoint.
:what: You just finding this out wwe pushes this in like every dvd lol.

Oh no, no, no..he said everything right. Alot of truth was in his words..he did make the WWF global..he was promised alot by Turner...it was a great heel turn money promo. His most memorable in WCW easily

I'm saying on the level of interesting shyt started to happen from the god awful New Generation era.. You had the transformation of Austin, the rise of Vader, matches becoming more intense, and EC dub making a random impact on the overall product. Sure the WWF was in a shytter in 96 because WCW was whooping that ass, but you can tell the hunger was there and Vince wasn't about to lie down for Turner.

Sometimes I wish he did though:mjcry:....I miss WCW.

Yall picking apples and oranges. Austin is good on mic. Rock is good on mic. Punk is good on mic. Doesn't have to always turn into a top talker debate.

The beauty of that Austin 3:16 promo is at the 27 second mark the fans are booing Austin. He drops the 3:16 line and at the 46 second mark they're cheering him. Iconic. A top-tier, arguably GOAT was born that day. An era begotten. Here's a swig for the working man.
